Fairway Verti-Cutting

I know that a lot of members are curious about the lines that have been cut into the fairways.  Causing divots to explode/fall apart.  This is the result of us doing very deep verti-cutting.  We do this in place of aerification to help firm up the fairways, removed organic matter, improve drainage after large rain events, allow grass blades to grow more vertically as opposed to horizontally, and many more benefits.  Well groomed turf provides a firmer and faster playing surface.  Furthermore, the firm vertical growth of the new plant allows for a superior ball lie and playability versus being burried in the turf.  This will give you a more naturally "teed" ball.

Here is a small video of the process.

We apologize for the mess it makes in the rough the next few days.  But we are working hard on cleaning it up.

Synthetic Turf

Our synthetic turf strip has now been installed.  Felix concrete finished up the concrete back on March 22.  We then allowed time for the concrete to cure before Synthetic Turf of Illinois came in to install the mat.  Synthetic Turf of Illinois and their crew finished up the synthetic strip April 3rd and it looks great.  So thank you Doug.  The new synthetic strip is the Ultimate Tee line and mimics hitting off grass.  You will even be able to use your own golf tees in the matting. This strip is a great addition to White Eagle.  With the number of Monday outings and amount of play the driving range experiences we will be able to preserve more grass for our bigger tournaments and member use.  Also, we will be able to keep the driving range open longer and open earlier each year.

Bunker Drainage

For the last 2 years, we have addressed bunker drainage issues on one of our 3 nines each winter.  Well this year we are on the blue 9 bunkers.  Over the years the sand has become heavily contaminated and causes poor drainage as well as poor play ability.  Also, over the years sand has found its way into the internal drainage system and slows down water drainage after large rain events.

New Toys

This winter we got some new toys to make the quality of life of not only the turf but everyone who works here at White Eagle a lot better.  Our mechanic got a new lift for the equipment.  The one we had before was strictly automotive use.  We could not use it for numerous pieces of equipment. It was also rusting through at the base and really wasn't safe anymore.

Pump House Update

Final touches have been put on the pump house.  We have finished all the painting on the outside as well as all the painting on the inside.  We also applied 3 coats of Epoxy to the floor.
